Ladakh – its beauty and silence
These days, Ladakh is becoming a new tourist destination especially after “3 Idiots”, Bollywood blockbuster film directed by Rajkumar Hirani where the last scene was shot in Ladakh.
Ladakh, an unique place on Earth situated at Leh District of Jammu & Kashmir. This region of higher altitude has natural beauty with an enchanting silence. The plateau is surrounded by stunning valley and fresh air. As lies in the Great Himalayan rain shadow, hence receives no monsoon in summer but snowfall in long winter. From monasteries to adventurous tours, Ladakh has lots to offer.
Places to see in Ladakh:
The most spectacular monasteries and valleys on the Earth can be seen here. From Leh your adventures will begin where you’ll come across colorful markets and odd lanes. Notable places to see are Leh Palace, monasteries of Hemis, Alchi, Shey, Thikse, Spituk and Lamayuru. Climbing towards north there is Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable passes and you’ll reach Nubru Valley. Places of attraction are Serzang Temple, Namgyal Tsemo Gompa, Sankar Gompa, Stok Palace, Sun Temple and Suru Valley.
The long Pangong Lake, situated at the height of about 4,350 m is a place shouldn’t be missed.
For the trekking purpose the region has divided around the area of Kargil, the Indus Valley and Zanskar.
Siachen Glacier region, one of the highest battle-fields:
Siachen Glacier, in the eastern Karakoram Range in the Himalaya Mountain is located in the east of LOC between India- Pakistan, is the highest battle-ground on the earth.
Well- known festivals:
“Hemis Festival”, one of the center of attraction for the tourists. It brings you the feel of belonging to the mountain folk and the highlands.
Other prominent festivals are Dosmochey, Matho Nagrang, Losar Celebration, Ladakh Festival and Sindhu Darshan.
Today Ladakh, a place for biker gangs:
A lots of biker gangs are coming Ladakh to experience this never ending landscape. People who love water sports, rafting, trekking, jeep safari, wildlife tour- this plateau is the best place to sink into.
How to reach and where to stay:
It is easily approached either by flying from Delhi to Leh or by road from Manali (Himachal Pradesh).
The best season to visit this place is between June to September when you’ll get both star hotels and medium range hotels besides excellent government guest houses.
