History behind the festival
In the year 1972 when KOB Radio was celebrating its 50th anniversary, the manager of the radio station Dick McKee requested Sid Cutter, the owner of Cutter Flying Service and also the first hot air balloon owner of New Mexico to fly his balloon “Roadrunner” as a part of the celebration activity. Since then this has become a great festival for the New Mexicans as well as for the rest of the world.
Balloon Fiesta Park
This is the name of the park where from all the balloons are launched and the park is located on the northern end of the city. In the year 2005 the museum Anderson- Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum was established on the ground to keep all the important details of this balloon festival and maintain a historical record of this exciting event.
