The basics

This site is a catalogue of places, published for general interest. You are welcome to read it, link to it, and quote short passages from it with attribution. You may not republish entries wholesale, scrape the catalogue, or present our writing as your own.

Our content

The text, photographs and the catalogue structure on this site belong to us or are used with permission. Coordinates and factual details about public places are, of course, facts — nobody owns those, and you should feel free to use them to actually go somewhere.

Your responsibilities

This is the part that matters more than usual on a site like this one. Remote places carry real risk. Conditions change, roads close, tides come in, weather turns, and a track that was passable when we wrote about it may not be passable when you arrive. Nothing published here is a substitute for current local information, proper equipment, or your own judgement about whether to proceed.

You travel at your own risk. Check conditions before you set out, tell somebody where you are going, and turn back when the situation calls for it. We cannot accept liability for what happens on a journey you chose to take.

Accuracy

We aim to be accurate and we correct errors when they are pointed out. Even so, details go out of date — opening times, access permissions, ferry schedules and the state of unsealed roads especially. Treat every entry as a starting point for your own research rather than a guarantee.
